Identification

A current driver's license, state ID, U.S. passport, or permanent resident card is the usual choice. It must be unexpired and the name must correspond to the name on the document. If your name has changed, raise it before the session rather than during it.

Technology

Use a device with a camera and microphone you have tested. A laptop is easiest for reviewing long documents; a phone works well for capturing your ID. Sit in a well-lit room, close bandwidth-heavy apps, and avoid public Wi-Fi that blocks video traffic.

The document

Bring the complete document, unsigned and undated. If the recipient supplied a specific form, use theirs. If the notarial certificate wording is missing, the notary cannot invent it for you — that choice belongs to you or your attorney.

Witnesses and other signers

If your document requires witnesses, they generally join the same session and need their own identification. Everyone must be available at the same time, which is the single most common scheduling constraint.
