How iNotarize serves signers in Virginia

How Remote Online Notarization works

1. You upload your unsigned document to private, encrypted storage.
2. You tell us where you are located, what the document is, and who must sign.
3. We review the request and confirm whether it can proceed remotely.
4. You complete identity verification.
5. You meet the notary in a secure audio/video session and sign electronically.
6. You receive the completed electronic document.

Submitting a document does not guarantee that the document or transaction is eligible for Remote Online Notarization. iNotarize will review your request and provide the appropriate next steps.

Documents Virginia signers commonly submit

What to prepare before your session

• The complete document, unsigned and undated, ideally as a PDF
• An unexpired government-issued photo ID
• A device with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection
• The names and locations of any additional signers or witnesses
• The name of the organization that will receive the document
• Your deadline

Identification overview

Identity verification is the core of Remote Online Notarization. Expect your government ID to be analyzed for authenticity and expect identity-proofing questions drawn from public records. If your legal name has changed, or the name on your ID differs from the name on the document, tell us during intake so it can be addressed before the session rather than during it.

What happens if a document cannot be completed remotely

Sometimes review shows that a document needs a paper original, an in-person appearance, or a step outside a Remote Online Notary's authority. When that happens we tell you directly and explain what we found, so you can pursue the right path instead of losing time.
